The Center for Emerging Network Technologies (CENT) is a hands on, applied research laboratory that provies testing and analysis of emerging enterprise information technologies. CENT is currently partnered with CMP Media and the industry analysis of our staff is regularly featured in both Information Week and Network Computing, two leading publications within the IT field.

In addition to CENT's applied research, the lab provides educational outreach through Syracuse University's School of Information Studies (iSchool). CENT's students, all of whom are actively involved in research within the lab, regularly consult with staff on integrating lab experiences into classes and assist students with technology projects throughout the curicula.

CENT also facilitates the iSchool's Information Technology Experiential Learning Lab and its staff regularly help to coordinate and build labs that draw on the applied research conducted within CENT. We also coordinate the iSchool's certification programs which are designed to give students the applied industry knowledge needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy.

CENT strives to be inolved with the greater community within Syracuse and Central New York. CENT is actively involved with the CASE Center's Technology Roundtable and has drawn on its industry connections to bring leading speakers to address local technology executives. Past speakers have come from leading companies including Cisco Systems and Aruba Networks.

CENT's research interests include:

  • Wireless Networking: 802.11 WLANs (802.11a/b/g/n), wireless WANs (WiMAX, 3G, EVDO, UMTS) fixed wireless
